Obi Consults Jonathan Amid Concerns Over Media Oppression

On a recent date, Peter Obi, a presidential aspirant for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), conducted a private meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan and Ijaw elders, including Ambassador Godknows Igali and Robert Azigbola. The consultation aimed to strategize for the 2027 general elections.

Obi, alongside notable South East leaders, sought Jonathan's insights, although Jonathan declined to join the ADC. When questioned about his potential endorsement of Obi, Jonathan stated they had not discussed such matters yet.

Obi's media office later issued a statement highlighting various schemes allegedly aimed at restricting his freedom and access to the Nigerian populace, citing recent cancellations of his public lectures at institutions like Obafemi Awolowo University and the University of Nigeria Nsukka. These actions were described as symptomatic of a deeper democratic malaise, with Obi emphasizing the need for free and fair elections in Nigeria.
