Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, expressed his condolences to traders and business owners impacted by a fire that occurred at Eda Plaza in Jabi, Abuja, on Sunday. In a statement shared on his X handle, Obi noted that the incident underscored the necessity to enhance Nigeria's emergency-response systems, particularly the fire services.

The fire reportedly destroyed shops and goods worth millions of naira, with an eyewitness stating that the alarm was raised around 3 am after a trader received a distress call. The fire resulted in losses exceeding N20 million in roofing materials alone.

Obi conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to those affected, emphasizing that the losses represented not just merchandise but years of savings and sacrifices. He urged authorities to ensure that fire services are adequately equipped and staffed to prevent such disasters.
