Obi Demands Tinubu's Resignation Over Economic Issues

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for the resignation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, criticizing his administration's handling of the economy and rising insecurity. Obi highlighted issues such as a staggering debt burden of 188 trillion naira, increased hunger among citizens, and failures in the energy sector, which he claims have led to public frustration.

In response, President Tinubu's administration, represented by special adviser Bayo Onanuga, dismissed Obi's call as childish and politically motivated, urging patience until the next presidential election in 2027. Onanuga defended the administration's economic record over the past three years and criticized Obi's comparison of Nigeria's situation to that of the UK, where Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer recently resigned.

He argued that Nigeria operates under a presidential system, contrasting it with the parliamentary system of the UK, and maintained that Obi's call reflects the opposition's frustration with the current regime.
