Ogazi Wins Nigeria's First Men's 400m Gold at Commonwealth

Ogazi achieved a historic milestone by winning Nigeria's first-ever men's 400m gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, finishing with a time of 44.25 seconds in Glasgow. He outperformed Trinidad and Tobago's Jereem Richards, who secured the silver medal with a time of 44.82 seconds, and South Africa's Zakithi Nene, who took bronze in 45.21 seconds.

The 20-year-old, who previously set an NCAA record, had recorded the fastest semi-final time of 44.52 seconds. In the final, Ogazi maintained close proximity to Richards during the initial 200 meters before demonstrating superior technique and speed to pull ahead in the final stretch.

He narrowly missed setting a new Commonwealth record by just 0.02 seconds. This victory marks Nigeria's 10th gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games, where Ella Onojuvwevwo also earned a bronze medal in the women's category shortly after, finishing in 51 seconds.
