Ogun Speaker Supports Special Seat Bill for Women

During a visit from the Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), the Speaker of the Ogun State House Assembly, Rt. Hon.

Oludaisi Elemid, reaffirmed his commitment to the legislative agenda supporting women's representation. NAWOJ presented a position paper advocating for the special seat bill (HB1349), which seeks constitutional intervention to enhance women's representation in Nigeria's legislative houses.

Chairperson Oluwatoyin Adegok emphasized the urgency of the bill, noting that Nigeria's democratic framework remains incomplete as it excludes women's voices in decision-making processes. Adegok described the special seat bill as a critical step toward restoring balance and credibility to the nation's democratic process.

The association urged the Ogun State House Assembly to endorse gender-responsive policies and requested the Speaker's intervention in three key areas, including advocacy for the passage of HB1349 to promote women's political inclusion in Ogun State.
