Ogun State Becomes Oil-Producing State with NNPCL Drilling

Ogun State has officially transitioned into an oil-producing state with the commencement of drilling operations at the Eba Well by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). The drilling site was inspected by a team led by Hussein Aliyu, the project coordinator from NNPCL, alongside officials from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the National Security Agency.

The governor of Ogun State described this development as a watershed moment, anticipating that it will unlock fresh economic opportunities, create jobs, and attract a stronger federal presence in the region. Geological assessments have confirmed hydrocarbon deposits in Ogun's waters, prompting NNPCL to engage in deeper technical evaluations.

The project is expected to last 18 months, with security measures in place to safeguard equipment and ensure operational continuity. This initiative is part of Nigeria's broader strategy to diversify its oil production base beyond the Niger Delta, aiming to boost national output and promote balanced regional development.
