Ogun State Trains Farmers on Agricultural Market System

Ogun State, in partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Special Agricultural Processing Zone (SAPZ), organized a two-day training session aimed at equipping farmers with knowledge on the Agricultural Market Information System (AGMIS). The training, held in Abeokuta, involved participants from four local government areas: Odogbolu, Ijebu East, Obafemi Owode, and Yewa North.

Mr. Kehind Jokotoy, the program coordinator, emphasized the importance of the training for smallholder farmers, enabling them to access real-time market data, interpret market information, and enhance their agricultural practices.

Mr. Abel Ameh highlighted that the AGMIS platform would connect smallholder farmers to larger markets, allowing them to upload commodities for immediate purchase, thereby reducing post-harvest losses.

The training aimed to address the challenges farmers face due to limited access to accurate market data, which often leads to poor pricing decisions. The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize agriculture and strengthen food security in the region.
