Ogun NUJ and CDHR Demand Probe into Journalist Assault

The Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) condemned the physical assault of two journalists, Taiwo Fabajo from the State Television and Bidemi Bello from Channel Television, by private security personnel during a government enforcement exercise in Igbesa. A viral video showed the assault, prompting the NUJ to call for an immediate investigation by the Nigeria Police Force to identify and prosecute the perpetrators.

Bunmi Adigun, the NUJ Secretary, emphasized that journalists must be allowed to perform their constitutional roles without intimidation. The Freelance Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) and the Radio, Television and Theatre Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) also condemned the incident as a direct attack on press freedom.

Yinka Folarin of the CDHR demanded that those involved in the assault be arrested and prosecuted within seven days, warning against any attempts to shield the perpetrators.
