NUJ Condemns Attack on Journalist in Port Harcourt

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) condemned an attack on journalist Allwel En, who works with Classic FM, Beat FM, and Naija FM in Port Harcourt, River State. The incident occurred on Monday at Garrison Junction, where En was assaulted by 17 hoodlums while investigating criminal activities in the area.

The attackers inflicted bodily injuries, tore his clothing, and stole his mobile phone along with an unspecified amount of money. En confirmed the incident to the state Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, who assured him that a medical examination form would be issued and that the police would investigate the attack thoroughly.

NUJ's River State Council, led by Chairman Paul Bazia and Secretary Ijeoma Tubosia, described the attack as unwarranted and unacceptable, emphasizing that such violence against journalists undermines their role in society and violates their rights. The police spokesperson, Bless Agab, confirmed that an investigation is underway.
