Okpebholo Moves To Revive Oba Market After Tragic Fire Incident 10 Years Ago

Governor Okpebholo announced plans to revive the Oba Market, which was destroyed in a tragic fire incident 10 years ago. The Governor inspected the ongoing reconstruction project on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, and expressed his commitment to fulfilling the promise made by the previous administration.

The reconstruction is being supported by President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, with the aim of transforming the market into a modern commercial hub. The new facility will include 450 open stalls, shops, a crèche, sick bay, restaurant, and a mini fire station to prevent future disasters.

The project manager, Aneru Izuagbe, revealed that the design features two levels with different types of shops. Governor Okpebholo reassured traders that the original occupants of the market would return to a better trading environment once the project is completed by June 2026.

The Governor emphasized his commitment to monitoring the contractor closely to ensure timely delivery of the market.
