Okpebholo Rolls Out Sweeping Justice Reforms In Edo State

Governor Okpebholo of Edo State has implemented sweeping justice reforms aimed at making the legal system more accessible, efficient, and fair for all citizens. The Commissioner of Justice, Samson Raphael Osagie, highlighted that the Ministry of Justice has been repositioned to ensure peace, order, and good governance.

The Department of Public Prosecutions has successfully handled numerous criminal cases, resulting in dozens of convictions. The administration has streamlined processes for legal opinions, prosecution initiation, and access to legal representation for suspects through the Police Duty Solicitors Scheme.

Legislative interventions include extending the retirement age for magistrates, establishing a new regulatory agency, and amending property protection laws. The government has also strengthened the Citizens Mediation Centre and Department of Citizens Rights to empower citizens to resolve disputes without lengthy court processes.

The correctional reform focuses on decongesting custodial centers and retraining state counsel. The state is committed to sustaining these reforms to prioritize justice delivery as a key driver of peace,.
