Edo Governor Okpebholo Revives Markets for Economic Growth

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo is undertaking a significant reconstruction initiative targeting major markets across the state to revive commercial activities and restore the livelihoods of traders. The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr. Patrick Ebojele, stated that the projects are part of the infrastructure pillar of the administration’s SHINE Agenda and focus on markets that have deteriorated or remained unusable for years.

A fire-ravaged market in Benin City is being redesigned to include over 450 open stalls, lock-up shops, restaurants, a crèche, a sick bay, and a fire station, with original traders receiving free shop allocations. The reconstruction efforts extend to the Irrua Ultra-Modern Market, which will feature 700 lock-up shops, and the POWA Shopping Complex in Ekpoma, where over 20 shops have been reconstructed after a fire.

Ebojele emphasized that these projects aim to promote balanced development across Edo’s three senatorial districts, particularly addressing the neglect of Edo North.
