Okpekpe International 10km Race Returns May 23, 2026

The Okpekpe International 10km Road Race is scheduled for a thrilling return on May 23, 2026, marking its 11th edition. CEO Mike Itemuagbor of Pamodzi Sports International confirmed the race's comeback after the 2025 edition was canceled due to unforeseen circumstances.

The event, which holds a significant place in Nigerian sports history as the first road running event in the country, has been certified by World Athletics since 2015 and was the first road race in West Africa to earn a label status. The race has attracted elite athletes from countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Morocco, Bahrain, and Nigeria.

Itemuagbor expressed gratitude to the community for their support and emphasized the race's role in bringing economic and tourism benefits to the rural town of Okpekpe in Edo State. The 2026 edition will introduce fresh innovations to enhance the experience for athletes and fans, maintaining its reputation as a world-class competition.

Records set by Daniel Ebenyo and Carolin Kipkirui in previous years are expected to be challenged.
