Oba-elect Samuel Fawehinmi Challenges New Monarch Appointment

Samuel Fawehinmi, the Oba-elect of Bolorunduro Kingdom in Ondo East Local Government Area, has expressed strong opposition to the Ondo State Government's recent appointment of Prof Thompson Akinifesi as the Ekingbade of Bolorunduro. This appointment was announced by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, and is said to herald a new era for the community.

Fawehinmi contends that this action is illegal and an affront to the judiciary, as the matter concerning the obaship is currently under litigation in the Ondo State High Court (Suit No. HOD/53/2023).

He was appointed as the Adegbalu of Bolorunduro by the late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, but his installation was delayed due to the ongoing court case. Fawehinmi criticized the state government for disregarding the legal process and urged the community to remain calm while expressing confidence in the judiciary's role as the last hope for justice.

The case is scheduled for adjournment on October 6, 2026.
