Ondo State Government Launches Crackdown on Fake Products

The Ondo State Government has commenced enforcement actions against the production, distribution, and sale of unregistered, counterfeit, adulterated, and substandard products. Mr. Oluyemi Fasipe, Chairman of the Ondo State Competition and Consumer Protection Agency, issued a warning during a press conference in Akure, stating that individuals involved in such activities would face prosecution.

The agency is empowered by a newly enacted law to impose sanctions, fines, and prosecutions on offenders. Fasipe highlighted the agency's commitment to intensifying monitoring and enforcement, particularly targeting fake drinks, adulterated consumables, and expired goods.

He also cautioned filling station operators against manipulating dispensing equipment and urged compliance with safety standards for sachet and bottled water producers. Following recent deaths in Odigbo and Irele local government areas linked to unverified herbal products, Fasipe stressed the necessity for stronger regulatory oversight.

He assured that legitimate businesses would not be targeted, but illegal operators would face severe consequences, including sealing of premises and removal of harmful products.
