Building Collapse in Port Harcourt Leaves One Feared Dead

On Wednesday, a three-storey building collapsed along Peter Odili Road in the highbrow area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, leading to one person feared dead and several others trapped under the rubble. Eyewitnesses attributed the collapse to possible structural defects, although the exact cause has not been immediately ascertained.

Rescue workers have recovered a lifeless body, which has yet to be identified, while ongoing rescue efforts are coordinated by the Rivers State Government, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Federal Road Safety Corps. Taiwo, a brother of one of the trapped individuals, reported that at least seven workers were inside the building when it collapsed.

By 2 PM on Wednesday, four people had been rescued alive. Dr.

Vincent Wachukwu, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Health, was present at the scene, overseeing the emergency response and ensuring that injured individuals were transported to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital for treatment.
