Rhodes-Vivour Defends Lagosians' Right to Choose Governor

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the former Labour Party gubernatorial candidate for Lagos State, asserted that only the residents of Lagos have the authority to remove their governor. His comments were made in response to a viral report alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was asked to resign due to health concerns, which has been categorically denied.

Rhodes-Vivour criticized the notion that a few individuals could dictate leadership in Lagos, emphasizing that political power should not be concentrated in the hands of a select few. He described the situation as a "hallucination" and an insult to the people of Lagos, insisting that the residents have the right to determine their leadership.

The Lagos State government, particularly through the spokesperson Gboyega Akosile, dismissed the report as false and misleading, confirming that Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health and is actively fulfilling his duties. The governor recently met with his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, to discuss his intent to contest for re-election in the upcoming 2027 elections.
