Onyema Urges Promotion of Nigerian Tourism Destinations

Dr. Allen Onyema, the Chairman and CEO of Air Peace, called on tour operators to actively promote Nigerian destinations to attract international visitors.

Speaking at the 5th Annual General Meeting of the Nigeria Association of Tour Operators (NATOP) in Lagos, he noted that promoting Nigeria's tourism would not only showcase the country to the world but also generate foreign exchange. Onyema highlighted that Nigeria's tourist attractions have not been adequately developed due to insufficient attention.

He mentioned the growing popularity of events like the Durbar Festival and the Calabar Carnival, which could be leveraged to enhance tourism. Onyema pointed out that negative perceptions about Nigeria, particularly concerning security, discourage foreign airlines and tourists.

He urged Nigerians to portray the country positively and stop emphasizing its challenges, as this affects economic growth and tourism development. He also praised the federal government's coastal highway project, which he believes could unlock Nigeria's tourism opportunities and create employment.
