Onyema Accuses Security Firms of Damaging Nigeria's Image

Allen Onyema, the Chairman of Air Peace, addressed the 10th Annual General Meeting of the Nigeria Association of Tour Operators (NATOP) in Lagos, accusing private security companies of demarketing Nigeria. He claimed these firms exaggerate the country's security challenges, discouraging foreign visitors and investors.

Onyema stated that the negative portrayal of Nigeria as an unsafe destination has harmed the country's tourism potential and created unnecessary anxiety among foreign airline operators and tourists. He emphasized the need for the federal government to engage with security companies to mitigate their negative impact on Nigeria's image.

Onyema also highlighted the importance of promoting Nigeria's positive attributes rather than focusing solely on its challenges. He commended the federal government's coastal highway project, which aims to unlock Nigeria's vast tourism potential and create job opportunities.

Onyema noted that Nigeria has significant underutilized tourism assets, including its extensive Atlantic coastline and rich cultural heritage.
