OPay and Google Launch N1.2bn Scholarship Program

OPay has announced a partnership with Google to expand its N1.2 billion scholarship program, which is designed to support education across Nigeria over a ten-year commitment. The program aims to empower students by providing financial aid, technical skill training, and innovative career pathways.

The initiative will include an innovation challenge running from May 25 to June 14, 2026, where teams of five undergraduate students from tertiary institutions across Nigeria can apply. Participants are expected to identify real-life problems and present technology-driven solutions.

The grand prize winner will receive N10 million, with additional prizes of N5 million and N3 million for the first and second runners-up, respectively. Beyond cash prizes, participants will benefit from structured webinars and bootcamp sessions to build practical skills and industry knowledge.

Elizabeth Wang, Chief Commercial Officer at OPay, emphasized the importance of investing in the education of young Nigerians, while Dotun Adekunle, Chief Operating Technology Officer at OPay, noted that the partnership with Google will enhance the impact of the scholarship program.
