OPEC+ Pauses Oil Output Increases for October 2026

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies (OPEC+) has paused its oil production increases, maintaining output levels for October 2026 after four consecutive monthly hikes. This decision was made during a virtual meeting on September 6, 2026, involving the seven core OPEC+ members: Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Algeria, Kazakhstan, and Oman.

OPEC+ began increasing output in June 2026 as part of a phased plan to unwind production cuts from 2023. The seven countries reaffirmed their commitment to achieving full conformity with the Declaration of Cooperation and will continue monthly reviews of market conditions.

The next meeting is scheduled for October 4, 2026. For October, the combined required production is approximately 31.01 million barrels per day, with Kuwait at 2.676 million bpd, Kazakhstan at 1.628 million bpd, and Algeria at 1.007 million bpd.

The pause allows OPEC+ to assess the impact of previously restored supply, while Nigeria continues to improve its crude oil production.
