OPEC+ Increases Oil Production by 188,000 Barrels Daily

In an online meeting on Sunday, OPEC+ members, including Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman, agreed to boost oil production by 188,000 barrels per day starting in September. This decision follows disruptions caused by the ongoing war in the Middle East, particularly affecting the Strait of Hormuz.

Analysts, including Jorge Leon from Rystad Energy, noted that while the increase was anticipated, it may have limited immediate impact due to ongoing constraints in the Strait. Giovanni Staunovo from UBS highlighted that many OPEC+ members are unable to meet their production targets due to declining capacity.

This September increase marks the completion of the unwinding of the second of three production-cut packages initiated by OPEC+. Analysts predict that OPEC+ will face challenging discussions over new production quotas next year, as geopolitical factors continue to influence the oil market.
