Operators Advocate Tech Adoption to Boost Oil Production

During a panel session at the Nigeria Oil and Gas Conference, stakeholders in Nigeria's oil and gas sector called for the wider adoption of emerging technologies and greater investment in human capital to improve operational efficiency and boost production. Emeka Okwuosa, chairman of Oilserv Group, emphasized the need for technology to enhance safety and sustainability in the industry.

He noted Oilserv's progress in automating operations, transitioning from manual processes to semi-automated systems, particularly in major gas pipeline projects. Gbolahan Lawal, managing director of Gil Group, urged operators to adopt data-driven innovations alongside emerging technologies to improve industry performance.

The discussion highlighted the uneven adoption of technology among operators, with larger international companies advancing while smaller indigenous operators face financial constraints. The panel also addressed the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in vessel management within the upstream marine sector, enabling predictive maintenance and operational efficiency.
