Orji Kalu to Challenge Alex Otti in 2027 Governorship Race

Orji Kalu, the former governor of Abia State and current senator representing Abia North, has publicly declared his intention to oppose the re-election of Governor Alex Otti in the upcoming 2027 governorship race. Kalu's decision is rooted in party loyalty and political responsibility rather than personal disagreements with Otti.

In an interview with Channels Television's Sunrise Daily, Kalu explained that while he enjoys a cordial relationship with Otti, political rivalry should not interfere with personal friendships. He emphasized that he belongs to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and will support the party's candidate against Otti, who is affiliated with the Labour Party.

Kalu acknowledged Otti's right to govern but made it clear that the APC will present a candidate in the 2027 elections, and he will actively support that choice. He noted that opposition is a normal aspect of democracy and should not be viewed as hostility.
