Adepoju Questions Osimhen's Leadership for Super Eagles

Mutiu Adepoju, a former midfielder for the Super Eagles, has raised concerns about Victor Osimhen's suitability as captain of Nigeria's national football team. While recognizing Osimhen's significant contributions, Adepoju emphasizes that leadership requires more than talent; it necessitates emotional control and the ability to represent the team effectively off the pitch.

He pointed out that Osimhen's reactions during a match against Uganda and Morocco, particularly involving teammate Ademola Lookman, demonstrated a need for greater emotional regulation. Adepoju noted that leadership qualities are essential for a captain, especially as the Super Eagles prepare for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, following the retirement of long-serving leaders William Troost-Ekong and Ahmed Musa.

Osimhen, who has scored 35 goals in 46 appearances for Nigeria since his debut in June 2017, has been a key player, but Adepoju remains skeptical about his leadership credentials.
