NGO Calls for Inclusion of PWDs in Osun Election Process

On August 15, ahead of the Osun governorship election, the NGO able2vot urged for special consideration for persons with disabilities (PWDs) to prevent their exclusion from the electoral process. Georg Domin Anwayi, a program manager at able2vot, emphasized the need for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide essential tools that would make voting easier for PWDs.

He highlighted that PWDs, constituting a significant population of approximately 30 million in Nigeria, should be treated with respect and included in the electoral process. Anwayi, along with Stephen Idowu, the chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JNAPWD) in Osun, commended able2vot for its outreach efforts aimed at sensitizing PWDs about their voting rights.

They called for prioritization of PWDs during the elections to ensure they can vote without facing long queues, reinforcing the belief that every citizen, including those with disabilities, has equal rights in a democracy.
