INEC Promises Equal Voting Rights for Persons with Disabilities

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has committed to ensuring equal voting rights for persons with disabilities (PWDs) in preparation for the Osun State governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026. Mr.

Oluwatoyin Babalola, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Osun State, made this declaration during a welcome address at an engagement meeting with PWDs in Osogbo. Babalola highlighted the significance of inclusivity in the electoral process, stating that INEC is dedicated to removing barriers that hinder participation and ensuring that every eligible citizen can exercise their right to vote with dignity.

She noted that the commission is developing assistive devices, such as Braille ballots and magnifying glasses, to enhance voter autonomy. Additionally, Babalola mentioned the establishment of a framework to promote participation among vulnerable groups, including the creation of PWD desks within political parties.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) also expressed its commitment to supporting INEC in ensuring a smooth electoral process.
