ICPC Warns Against Vote Buying Ahead of Osun Election

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has issued a warning against vote buying and selling in anticipation of the Osun governorship election scheduled for August 15. Mr.

Yusuf Olatunji, the ICPC Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner in Osun, announced that anyone caught engaging in vote trading would be arrested and prosecuted. During an awareness rally in Osogbo themed “My Vote, My Future: Reject Vote Buying, Protect Democracy,” Olatunji urged voters to recognize the value of their votes and resist any attempts to influence their choices through cash or gifts.

He highlighted the long-term negative consequences of vote trading on governance and development, stating that electing the wrong leaders could have lasting impacts. Olatunji reaffirmed the ICPC’s commitment to combating corruption through public education and collaboration with stakeholders, emphasizing that prevention is more effective than prosecution.

He also called for peaceful campaigns by political parties in accordance with the law.
