Tinubu to Meet Adeleke Over Osun LG Funds Crisis

The ongoing crisis surrounding local government funds in Osun State has prompted President Bola Tinubu to arrange a meeting with Governor Ademola Adeleke. The meeting aims to address the prolonged disputes over fund access, which have raised concerns within political and financial circles.

Officials familiar with the developments indicate that arrangements for the meeting are already underway, despite attempts by the Progress Congress Osun to block engagement. The controversy centers around Toni Elumelu, Chairman of the United Bank for Africa, who has been invited to discuss the management of local government funds.

Questions have arisen regarding whether payments were made without proper authorization, and discussions are reportedly focused on alleged transactions that may violate financial regulations. A magistrate court in Osogbo has ordered UBA to stop releasing local government funds to individuals claiming to be council chairmen, pending the conclusion of criminal proceedings involving top bank officials.

The court has upheld a bench warrant against senior UBA officials, ensuring that the criminal trial continues until a final judgment is delivered.
