Osun Senator Fadeyi Rejects Disqualification Claims

Olubiyi Fadeyi, the Senator representing Osun East, dismissed claims regarding his disqualification from the 2027 elections following a Supreme Court judgment on September 26, 2026. The Supreme Court upheld an appeal by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against a Court of Appeal ruling that had voided parts of the Electoral Act 2026 concerning political party primaries and membership registers.

Fadeyi stated that his candidacy for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was legitimate and complied with constitutional and electoral laws. He emphasized that neither he nor the PDP were parties to the suit, which involved the Zenith Labour Party and Young Progressive Party.

Fadeyi described the disqualification claims as speculative and unfounded, attributing them to political opponents anxious about his popularity ahead of the elections. He reiterated that the PDP followed all necessary legal procedures to endorse his candidacy for a second term.
