Otti and Achebe Urge Ohanaeze Ndigbo to Avoid Partisanship

Abia State Governor Alex Otti and the Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Achebe, called for the renewal of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, emphasizing the need for the organization to remain above partisan politics and serve as the conscience of the Igbo people. This appeal was made during the unveiling of the book “Ohanaeze at 50 – The Burden of Memory, The Politics of Relevance: A Critical Biographical Reflection of an Igbo Institution,” authored by Agbeze Onuma, in Lagos.

Otti, who served as the special guest of honour, remarked that the 50th anniversary should prompt honest reflection on Ohanaeze's past, present relevance, and future. He stressed the importance of institutional renewal and the need for leadership to align with the aspirations of younger generations.

Otti urged the adoption of technology and innovation to ensure the future of Ndigbo is built on more than nostalgia. Achebe echoed these sentiments, stating that Ohanaeze must return to its role as a socio-cultural organ.
