Cross River Governor Otu Suspends LG Recruitment Process

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State announced the suspension of local government recruitment due to complaints regarding misconduct in the process. The decision was made public in a statement released on Wednesday by Owan Enoh, the Secretary to the State Government.

Concerns were raised about the handling of the recruitment exercise, including allegations that job slots were sold and that the process was not transparent. To address these issues, Governor Otu has approved the formation of a five-member panel tasked with examining the recruitment process for any breaches.

The panel will also allow members of the public to submit complaints or observations, either directly or in writing, to gather detailed accounts of alleged irregularities. Additionally, the panel will review payroll across the 18 local government areas in the state, particularly in light of concerns that the number of workers may exceed actual figures.

The panel is expected to operate across the three senatorial districts of the state, with the governor assuring residents that actions will be taken to promote fairness and proper conduct in public service, with penalties for those found guilty of misconduct.
