Cross River Governor Suspends LG Recruitment Over Misconduct

Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu announced the suspension of the local government recruitment exercise in Ogoja following allegations of misconduct and widespread irregularities. This decision was made public through a statement issued on Wednesday by Prof.

Owan Enoh, the Secretary to the State Government. The suspension aims to restore public confidence and ensure due process in the recruitment of personnel within the local government system.

In response to the allegations, Governor Otu approved the formation of a five-man panel tasked with investigating the extent of the infractions in the recruitment process. The panel will review the legitimacy of the recruitment procedures and invite public oral and written representations regarding the alleged discrepancies.

Additionally, the committee is mandated to scrutinize the actual payroll across the 18 local government councils amid concerns of possible inflated workforce figures. The panel is expected to convene across three senatorial districts in the state and will summon individuals deemed relevant to the investigation.
