NSITF Chief Calls for Legal Reforms to Restore Trust

Oluwaseun Faley, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), addressed the need for legal reforms to restore public confidence in Nigeria's legal system during the 2026 Law Week organized by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Gwagwalada branch in Abuja. He highlighted the importance of rebuilding institutional trust and emphasized that laws must work for workers, particularly in ensuring statutory protections.

Faley pointed out the lack of public trust in legal institutions, citing a survey by Afrobarometer that indicated fragile confidence in the judiciary and government agencies. He stressed that the disconnect between legal rights and citizens' lived experiences must be bridged to ensure that laws translate into real protections for vulnerable workers.

Faley also noted that the NSITF's compensation scheme is crucial for supporting employees facing occupational risks. Clever Owhor, Chairman of the NBA Gwagwalada branch, echoed the need for collective action among stakeholders to address public dissatisfaction with the justice system.
