Oyo Teacher's Family Reacts to Rescue After Kidnapping

The family of Michael Olugbad Oyedokun, a teacher killed during a kidnapping incident, reacted with mixed emotions following the rescue of abducted pupils and a teacher in Oyo State. Oyedokun's niece, who serves as the family spokesperson, shared their sorrow on Instagram, stating that their uncle will never return home, and lamented the pain of losing him.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde described the rescue as a significant relief after the victims spent 57 days in captivity. The operation, which led to the rescue, was coordinated by security forces, and eight suspects involved in the kidnapping have been arrested and are currently in custody.

The attack occurred on May 15 when gunmen invaded a primary school in Yawota Community, Oriire Local Government Area, resulting in the abduction of several pupils and teachers. Oyedokun was among those targeted, and another teacher, Esiyan Adegboy, was shot dead during the invasion.
