Over 120 Infected with Norovirus on Ruby Princess Cruise

More than 120 individuals aboard the Ruby Princess cruise ship were infected with norovirus during a 20-day round-trip journey from San Francisco to Canada and Alaska. The U.S.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that 102 passengers and 23 crew members were affected by the virus. The outbreak was reported to the CDC on Saturday after the ship set sail on June 12.

The Ruby Princess had a total of 3,032 passengers and 1,144 crew members on board. Symptoms of norovirus include sudden onset of vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain, which can last up to three days.

Princess Cruises stated that the crew responded promptly by implementing enhanced sanitation protocols across the ship. The ship will undergo thorough cleaning and disinfection before its next departure later on Thursday.

The CDC has noted that there have been seven illness outbreaks reported on cruise ships this year, primarily due to norovirus.
