NECO Marks 25 Years, Celebrates 35M Candidates

The National Examinations Council (NECO) disclosed that over 35 million candidates have participated in various examinations over the past 25 years, highlighting the council's significant impact on educational assessment and national development. This announcement was made by the Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, during a gala award night held in Minna to celebrate NECO's 25th anniversary.

Emeritus Professor Dibu Ojerinde, the pioneer registrar of NECO from 1999 to 2007, was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the establishment of the council. NECO was created on July 10, 1999, in response to public demand for a credible and efficient national examination body.

Prof. Wushishi emphasized NECO's commitment to maintaining high standards in examination administration and adopting modern technology. The event also recognized top-performing schools in the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), with Doriti International Early Learning School emerging as the overall best.
