Candle Fire at Kwara Church Affects Four Rooms

On June 23, 2026, at approximately 06:18 hours, a fire broke out at the Christ Celestial Church of God located in the Tank area of Ilorin, Kwara State. The incident was attributed to a candle that had been left burning overnight, which ignited nearby combustible materials.

The Kwara State Fire Service, led by spokesperson Hassan Adekunle, responded immediately to the scene and successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to neighboring structures. Preliminary investigations indicated that human negligence was involved in the outbreak.

Alabi Muham, the director of the Kwara State Fire Service, warned residents against leaving open flames unattended, especially in enclosed spaces, and urged the public to adopt safer lighting alternatives. This incident follows a series of recent fire outbreaks in Ilorin, including a significant fire on June 14 that destroyed a supermarket.
