Nigeria and APM Terminals Sign MoU for Badagry Port

The federal government of Nigeria and APM Terminals signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Copenhagen, Denmark, to explore the development of the proposed Badagry Deep-Seaport. This agreement, signed by Dr Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, and Vincent Clerc, Group Chief Executive Officer of A.P.

Moller-Maersk, represents a significant step towards establishing a new deepwater gateway for Nigeria and West Africa. Under the MoU, APM Terminals will engage in exclusive negotiations with Badagry Port Development Limited and Quinn McGrath Marine and Environmental Services Limited for the greenfield port project.

The port aims to provide additional deepwater capacity, accommodate larger vessels, and create transshipment opportunities, thereby strengthening Nigeria's position as a maritime hub. Oyetola emphasized the government's commitment to enhancing maritime infrastructure and attracting private-sector investment.

Discussions also included the potential extension of APM Terminals' concessions at the Lagos Port Complex and the West Africa Container Terminal in Onne.
