Oyetola Unveils Major Seaport Modernization for Nigeria

Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, announced a comprehensive seaport modernization program aimed at improving efficiency, capacity, and competitiveness in Nigeria's transportation and logistics systems. This announcement was made during the 2026 Transport Industry Summit organized by the Transport Correspondents Association of Nigeria (TCAN) in Lagos.

Oyetola, represented by Mr. Paul Garnuwa, Director of Inland Transport Services at the Nigerian Ports Economic Regulatory Agency, emphasized the importance of interconnected transport components and the federal government's focus on enhancing maritime infrastructure. The modernization program, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will cover major ports including Apapa, Tin Can Island, Onne, Rivers, Calabar, and Warri, involving significant infrastructure improvements such as reconstructing quay walls and deepening channels.

Oyetola noted that the initiative aims to reduce logistics costs, vessel and cargo delays, and strengthen Nigeria's maritime gateways, ultimately benefiting manufacturers, exporters, and consumers.
