Oyo State Activates Flood Alert for 2026 Rainy Season

On Wednesday, Ademola Aderinto, the Oyo State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, announced the activation of a flood alert in preparation for the 2026 rainy season during a press briefing. This initiative is part of the state government's efforts to address environmental challenges such as climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss, which pose serious threats to human health and sustainable development.

Aderinto emphasized the need for residents to join the government in restoring the environment, highlighting the importance of early warning systems for flood-prone areas and continuous monitoring of drainage infrastructure. The Oyo State government, under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, is committed to ensuring a clean and sustainable environment, which includes intensifying inspections of waste management systems and promoting public participation in environmental awareness campaigns.

Additionally, the state plans to desilt drainage channels to prevent blockages that often lead to flooding.
