Oyo State Issues Flood Prevention Advisory for Residents

The Oyo State government has issued a statement advising residents and farmers to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to government advisories to prevent flooding as the rainy season approaches. Ademola Aderinto, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, highlighted that the government is implementing proactive measures to mitigate flood impacts across the state.

This includes collaboration with the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency and utilizing an early warning flood system established through the Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project, supported by the World Bank. The government has intensified efforts to clear waterways and drainage channels, removing debris that obstructs water flow.

Aderinto also advised residents living along riverbanks and flood-prone areas to relocate to safer locations. Additionally, he cautioned farmers against rushing to plant crops during early rainfall, as the Nigerian Meteorological Agency predicts intermittent dry spells throughout the year.

Farmers are urged to wait for official guidance before commencing planting activities.
