Oyo CP Olugbenga Urges Peace Ahead of 2027 Elections

Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, addressed potential threats to peace in the state as the 2027 general elections approach. Speaking at an election sensitization symposium organized by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Tribune Chapel, on Thursday, he called on all stakeholders, including voters and politicians, to adhere to the rules to avoid violence.

The elections are scheduled for January 16, 2027, for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, and February 6, 2027, for the Governorship and Houses of Assembly polls. Olugbenga assured residents that the police command is enhancing security measures, particularly in flashpoint areas, to prevent violent crimes, especially in light of recent abductions in Oriire Local Government Area.

He emphasized that residents should not fear a breakdown of law and order, as security issues are reviewed daily. His statements come amid concerns over election-related violence, highlighted by a report from Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) documenting 73 incidents and 29 deaths in the lead-up to the Osun State governorship election on August 15.
