Akwa Ibom Police Chief Urges Peaceful Elections Ahead of 2027

On September 16, 2026, Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, issued a warning to politicians to refrain from violence and criminal activities in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections. Speaking at a seminar in Uyo, organized by the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, and the Akwa Ibom State Government, Azare stressed the importance of neutrality, professionalism, and impartiality from the police.

He outlined unacceptable behaviors, including thuggery, hate speech, and possession of dangerous weapons. Azare called for collaboration among security agencies, political parties, and community leaders to promote peaceful elections.

Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, represented by Deputy Senator Akon Eyakenyi, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that no political ambition justifies violence and urging the empowerment of youth rather than their manipulation for political gain. Eno declared that the 2027 elections must not disrupt the peace of the state.
