Oyo State Government Invests N50 Million in Family Planning

The Oyo State Government is committed to strengthening family planning services, as stated by Dr Muideen Olatunji, Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Primary Health Care Board. The government invested N50 million in family planning commodities in 2025 and has allocated another N50 million for 2026 to ensure the availability of essential health services.

Nearly 4,000 healthcare personnel have been recruited to enhance service delivery, particularly at the primary healthcare level. Sikiru Sanda, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, represented by Vice Chairman Olayanju Kazeem, called for increased awareness among women regarding family planning.

Alhaja Risiwa Amiringun, the Iyaloja of Ibadanland, stressed the need for training market women on family planning. The Society for Family Health and Delivering Innovation in Self-Care (DISC) team presented interventions aimed at addressing myths about family planning.

An assessment indicated that Oyo State achieved 65.2 percent institutional readiness for family planning, with specific local government areas identified for further improvement.
