Oyo State Issues Ultimatum for Unclaimed Corpses

The Oyo State Government has announced a seven-day ultimatum for next of kin to identify unclaimed corpses currently deposited in various public hospital mortuaries across the state. This initiative, communicated through a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Health, Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, aims to address the significant increase in the number of unclaimed bodies, which has led to congestion and affected the storage capacity of mortuaries.

The corpses have been brought to these facilities by agencies such as the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, and Nigerian Correctional Service. Ajetunmobi urged concerned individuals to visit relevant public hospital mortuaries to identify and claim the bodies, as the mass burial for unclaimed corpses is scheduled to occur after the seven-day notice.

The state government remains committed to maintaining public health standards and ensuring effective management of healthcare facilities across Oyo State.
