Oyo State Unveils Weeklong Program for 50th Anniversary Celebrations

Oyo State has revealed a weeklong program to mark its 50th anniversary, with activities such as religious services, cultural exhibits, award dinners, and public lectures. The event lineup includes a focus on consolidating the state's legacy, navigating the present, and reimagining the future.

Sahe Fijabi, the Chairman of the Oyo 50th Anniversary Committee, shared details during a press conference in Ibadan. Governor Seyi Makinde appointed Fijabi to lead the 11-man committee.

Oyo State was created on February 3, 1976, during the military government of late Gen. Murtala Mohammed, with David Jemibewon as the first military governor.

The celebrations will commence on January 26 and culminate in a dinner on February 3 to honor distinguished citizens and contributors to the state's development.
