Delta Police Reject 'Rape Festival' Claims at Ozoro

The Delta State Police Command has dismissed allegations of a "rape festival" associated with the Ozoro festival, clarifying that there are no official reports of rape linked to the incident on March 19. Bright Edaf, the police public relations officer, stated that while a viral video showed assaults, there is currently no evidence of formal complaints.

The police have arrested 16 suspects, including community leaders and the chief priest of Oramutu quarter, for failing to prevent the breakdown of law and order. Edaf emphasized the need for victims to report sexual violence to aid law enforcement in prosecuting offenders.

The Delta State Attorney General, Ekemejero Ohwovoriol, commended the police for their swift response to restore calm in Ozoro following the incident, which sparked public outrage. The police reiterated that the actions of individuals do not reflect cultural practices and warned against mismanagement of large gatherings to prevent further incidents.
