First Lady Condemns Ozoro Festival Sexual Assault

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu expressed her outrage over a horrific viral footage depicting the sexual assault of women and girls during the Ozoro cultural festival in Delta State, which took place on March 19, 2026. In a statement issued on Sunday, she described the incident as a grave violation of human rights and a barbaric act that degrades the dignity of women and girls.

Tinubu commended the Nigerian police for the arrests made so far, which include at least 15 suspects, and urged relevant authorities to ensure that the perpetrators face the full weight of the law. The Delta State government, represented by Charl Aniagwu, also condemned the incident, calling it unacceptable and vowing to bring those involved to justice.

Various civil society organizations, including the Nigerian Bar Association and ActionAid Nigeria, have demanded justice for the victims and emphasized the need for sustained efforts to address gender-based violence.
