Oluremi Tinubu Demands Justice for Assaulted Women

Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, condemned the assault of women during the Alu Festival held in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State. In a statement, she described a viral video showing a female student being chased, stripped, and molested as horrific and barbaric.

Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria's diverse cultures should deeply respect the dignity and freedom of women and girls, asserting that no tradition or custom can justify such violations. The incident occurred on Thursday during the festival, which is a traditional community event.

Tinubu called on relevant authorities to ensure that those responsible are held accountable under the law and commended the Nigeria Police Force for arresting 15 suspects so far. She also urged the victims to seek appropriate medical and psychological support during this difficult time.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the assaults were carried out by criminal elements exploiting the festival, not representative of legitimate cultural practices.
